JR Utsunomiya is the main train station for the Utsunomiya city in Tochigi prefecture in Japan.  Utsunomiya city is the largest and the de facto capital city of Tochigi prefecture.

JR Utsunomiya station services both Shinkansens (Tohoku Shinkansen) and regular JR lines.  The Shinkansen trains to the Tohoku region can be boarded either at JR Tokyo station or JR Ueno Station.  JR Utsunomiya station is about one hundred kilometers, north of the central Tokyo city.


In and around JR Utsunomiya station there are many dumplings restaurants, for which this city is well known for.


The historic and enchanting Nikko National Park is about thirty kilometers from JR Utsunomiya Station.  Once you get to JR Utsunomiya Station, you can switch to JR Nikko line.  The ride to JR Nikko station from here is about forty minutes.  Both legs of the journey are completely free if you are using a JR Pass.
